She was found as a newborn calf in 2000 by Tonie and Shirley Joubert after being separated from her mother due to floods. Jessica was very weak and was hand-raised by the couple. Instead of returning to the wild, Jessica chose to stay with the Jouberts, although she is free to come and go as she pleases.
This unique attraction is also fun for children, who can enjoy feeding and petting Jessica, providing an unforgettable experience.

Meet a hippo
Jessica is remarkable for her tame behavior and the fact that she has become accustomed to human interaction, which is extremely rare for a hippopotamus, given their usually aggressive nature in the wild. For example, she drinks tea and eats food given to her by people daily. Her presence has attracted many visitors and media attention, making her a local celebrity.
